NextRadio is a free app that leverages an unlocked FM chip in the smartphone to enable listeners to experience FM radio. In conjunction with TagStation, NextRadio enables broadcasters to enhance the assets they already own (the towers, studios, licenses, talent and local appeal) while making FM radio more accessible and engaging in the process.
NextRadio is a free app that leverages an unlocked FM chip in the smartphone to enable listeners to experience FM radio. NextRadio requires ear buds or a connected wire to serve as the antennae. Listening is not restricted to your ear buds; users can choose to output audio to the smartphone’s speakers if desired.
When a user launches NextRadio, it uses the device location to create a guide of local FM radio stations. Live Guide offers a live view of everything playing in a given market at that time. Users can also find stations by Genre or by viewing a list of available frequencies.
When a listener selects a station, FM audio flows instantly and if the station is connected to TagStation, enhanced content is also displayed:
On music stations this means song and artist information, along with album art and interactions like buying the song, sharing what they’re listening to via their favorite social networks, or telling the station they like a particular song;
On talk or sports stations, or when a music jock cracks the mic, pictures, text and opportunities to interact with the current program are displayed on NextRadio. If a user wants to call or text the studio, NextRadio enables them to launch their calling app with a preformatted number in one tap.
Stations connected to the TagStation platform can also enhance their spots and promos with artwork, text and a number of interactions through TagStation’s Campaigns feature. So when the listener hears the promo for your live broadcast event, they can easily save those details to their personal calendar. And when they hear the McDonald’s spot, they can easily find the nearest location.
NextRadio, in conjunction with TagStation, enables broadcasters to enhance the assets they already own (the towers, studios, licenses, talent and local appeal) while making radio more accessible and engaging in the process. It creates opportunity to generate incremental revenue from advertisers. Most importantly it gives radio listeners the FM experience they deserve: visual, interactive, portable, and local.
